Seeking online publishers
Marshall’s OWN is seeking online publishers who give an extra bit of thought to the creation of their works and words and who might like to be a part of this new adventure in community connections.
As a newspaper reporter it has always mystified me that people just expect the media to be there, to go out and defend their rights to speech by using it even when they will not. I don’t believe this is for any lack of understanding of how important this right is. I don’t believe people want others to have more of the right to say than they.
It is difficult to know how to engender someone with the knowledge and wisdom to say things succinctly to take up the passion of the pen if they have not done so already. But, should you or another already publish online and like to join this network, please contact me. Should you have yet to find your bravery, talk with me about publishing and getting past your writers’ version of stage fright. (It’s called a social conscience.)
I’d say that we are all in this together, but that’s not entirely correct. We are all affected by one the other, whether it’s our intention to be or not. We are all affected, and we also affect. Is it so much to ask that we use speech to direct our community into caring and action that makes our village a more pleasing and helpful place to be?
It’s my belief that by sharing our thoughts, experiences and ideas in a way that goes beyond an average social networking post — well, then we can have that much greater understanding and cooperation.
Come write with me. Come talk about writing with me. Let’s make thoughtfulness more than a fad or a trend. Let’s make sharing our thoughts and hearts a way to have fun and leave our mark on this life.

Headlines for Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011
This is an example of a daily headlines feed. Just two for this go-round. It will show the categories for interest, followed by a link to their headline, followed by the date it was published, who wrote it and if their blog/site has a name that is also linked.
[How to] Avoid Viruses (12-26-11) By: Charles Compton of TechTips
[Entertainment] [Downtown] Doing It All Downtown (09-19-11) By: Terri Richardson of Muse Meets Main
Dear Reader,
I have been tinkering away on the Marshall’s OWN website and thought it was a fine time to go ahead and post an example of my vision for the site.
It is a headline site for online publishers who choose to be included in a collective. While I study up on link laws and publishing news headlines from sites without permission, I have begun by including an old blog post I wrote on Muse Meets Main and another from Charles.
Just like with Charles’ entry on viruses, I will be featuring self-published pieces by commercial entities, preferring to promote entries that are either helpful or express some additional, non-commercial interest for the community. Because his piece is beneficial to an at-large online community, it’s a good example.
Charles and I work together at Hometown Computers, and will be sharing office space between the compuer shop, Marshall’s OWN, Marshall Advocate, Muse Meets Main Media Publishing an as many other fantastic inventions as we can fathom. It’s also a great place to buy a computer if you are ready to learn about reading news topics online.
Contribute a headline, find us on social media and check back often for enlightening local content.
Sincerely,
Terri Richardson — Editor of Marshall’s OWN

The birth of an IDEA
Today is a great day for Marshall, Texas’, online writers and bloggers, independent journalists and people who would like others in this vicinity to find their work.
Working in the newspaper industry as a reporter for the Marshall News Messenger and theTexarkana Gazette, as well as networking with professionals in the industry has led me to see the need for a place where the talent from this passing media to better market and pool their resources for the community’s greater good.
Organization of content will be a work in progress, an evolving response in both its appearance and frequency. A “front page” of recent releases and articles is planned and is expected to provide something new each day. A writers’ showcase for introducing local writers and their blog or website will also be a major feature at Marshall’s OWN.
Videographers and others contributing to online media are also welcome to join the network, so long as their locally generated content has a local public interest. Think of Marshall’s OWN as a home for headlines — yours.
Intentions stand for this site to be an avenue for all manners of community interest, including providing an avenue for affordable advertising to better help small businesses gain recognition in the marketplace.
Surely, I will also be writing on a new blog in addition to this one (yet to be announced), for local news interest in addition to my duties at the Marshall News Messenger where I am a staff writer. Should my employment status change at the newspaper, this change will only leave me more free to encourage this building team of writers into becoming a true community service.
In the meantime, should you find this site and have an immediate interest in becoming involved, please contact me at my email address, TerriR99@gmail.com, or call me at 903-280-5062.
Sincerely,
Terri Richardson
